Dettori will miss French Derby

Frankie Dettori picked up a four-day suspension at Goodwood on Wednesday, a ban that will force him to miss the French Derby on June 3.

Dettori was suspended from June 1 to 4 by the stewards for irresponsible riding aboard the Godolphin-owned Hatha Anna in the Chichester Festival Theatre Conditions Stakes when he angled in, bumping with Return. In spite of the interference, which cost Return third place, Hatha Anna and Dettori were allowed to keep second place behind the Pat Eddery-ridden winner, Ulundi.

Dettori had been expected to ride either Wareed or Musha Merr for Godolphin in the French Derby, but he will be aboard Godolphin's Celtic Silence in the June 9 Epsom Derby, for which 27 horses remain in the race after Wednesday's entry stage.

As of Wednesday, Tote odds on the Epsom Derby were: Golan 2-1, Galileo 3-1, Dilshaan 8-1, Asian Heights 9-1, Perfect Sunday 10-1, Celtic Silence 16-1, Chancellor 16-1, and Storming Home 20-1.
