Derby Watch rankings for April 28

Who's Hot, Who's Not

WHO'S HOT: The category should be "who's lukewarm." The two newcomers to this week's top 25 of Derby Watch are both longshots, and both might not even run in the race. Mister Triester, who is scheduled to run on Saturday in the Derby Trial at Churchill Downs, will have his Derby status determined following that race. He is currently 20th on the graded-stakes earnings list, so he's in if his connections want to run. Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form's national handicapper, has him at 80-1 on his future line. Malameeze was put on the list because his connections want to run, and because the list encompasses 25 horses. Not coincidentally, Malameeze is 25th on the graded stakes earnings list. He is unlikely to get into the race. Watchmaker pegs him at 200-1.

WHO'S NOT: To make room for the two newcomers, two horses were taken off the list. Like Now is bypassing the Derby following his second-place finish in last week's Lexington Stakes, so he was dropped. Also removed from last week's list was With a City, who died last weekend.
