Derby update

Castledale, the upset winner of the Santa Anita Derby, and Pollard's Vision, who captured the Illinois Derby, are the latest members of the top 25 of Derby Watch. Castledale is 20-1 on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form's national handicapper. Pollard's Vision is 25-1. Rock Hard Ten, who was 20-1 a week ago, was lowered to 12-1 by Watchmaker, but his Derby status is precarious, since he has only $90,000 in graded stakes earnings.

Eurosilver was declared out of the Derby last weekend. Fire Slam, who is scheduled to run in next week's Coolmore Lexington Stakes, was bumped from the list to make room for Pollard's Vision. St Averil, who ran poorly in the Santa Anita Derby, is now 25-1 on Watchmaker's line after being the co-second choice one week ago at 10-1.

The list of Derby contenders is awfully crowded. Breakaway and Mustanfar, both of whom are entered in the Blue Grass Stakes, can move into the list with big performances Saturday.
