Derby update

With no races of significance last weekend, there figured to be very little movement among the top 25 of Derby Watch from one week ago. The only addition is Minister Eric, who moves onto the list because of the defection of Gradepoint. Minister Eric, who was second in an allowance race on Saturday at Santa Anita, is best known for finishing second in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile to his Richard Mandella-trained stablemate, Action This Day. He is 40-1 on the future line set by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form's national handicapper.

Gradepoint was removed from the top 25 because of a knee fracture that will keep him out for the rest of the year, and could end his racing career. Eurosilver, last week's future-line favorite, was raised from 8-1 to 15-1 by Watchmaker after trainer Nick Zito announced the colt would miss the Blue Grass Stakes because of an infection in his neck.

Saturday's Illinois Derby at Hawthorne Race Course has a couple of runners to watch. Pollard's Vision, who is blind in one eye, was most recently third in the Louisiana Derby. Suave won a 1 1/8-mile allowance race at Gulfstream in faster time than that day's Florida Derby.
