Derby, Futurity at Prairie Meadows


Apollos Ten Bears tries for his third stakes win of the year when he heads the Grade 3, $61,900 Altoona Derby on Friday night at Prairie Meadows.

On Saturday night, fastest-qualifier None as Easy is after her second stakes win in the Grade 2, $143,850 Valley Junction Futurity.

Apollos Ten Bears, owned by Michael and Barbara Bauman, has four wins from five starts this year, including victories in the Grade 3 Bayer Legend Central Challenge and the Iowa Double Gold Derby. An Ed Hardy-trained gelding, Apollos Ten Bears is the fastest qualifier to the Altoona Derby with his trial win in 19.729 seconds for the 400 yards. He finished 1 1/4 lengths ahead of second-fastest qualifier Miss Corona Chick.

None as Easy, trained by Charley Hunt, has four wins from seven starts, with a victory in the Grade 2 American Airlines Central Challenge and a second in the Grade 2 Lazy E Futurity. Her 17.615-second trial win over 350 yards was the fastest time from four trials on Aug. 26.
