Deputy Dance stands out as an obvious favorite

EmailIt does not take long to build a case for Deputy Dance in the $25,000 Bountiful Harvest for 2-year-olds at Sam Houston Race Park. He is the lone stakes winner in the field. He is by a top 2-year-old stallion in Posse. And he was a maiden special weight winner at Arlington Park in June, one start after running a close fourth to the future graded stakes winner Kodiak Kowboy in a maiden race at Churchill Downs.

Throw into the mix his high percentage connections of Heiligbrodt Racing Stable and trainer Steve Asmussen, and Deputy Dance looks formidable in this six-furlong overnight stakes.

Also in the Bountiful Harvest is Stormy Wedding, who earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 84 in April when he won his career debut in a 4o1/2-furlong race at Lone Star Park.

Deputy Dance became a stakes winner at Canterbury in July, when he rolled to a three-length win in the $45,000 Brian Barenscheer Juvenile. He last raced on Nov. 4, and finished third to the undefeated, stakes-bound Por Que in a $75,000 optional claiming race at Remington Park. Jose Figueroa has the mount on Deputy Dance, who will break from post 2.

Stormy Wedding is returning to dirt after finishing sixth in the $100,000 El Joven at a mile on turf at Retama Park on Oct. 27. Steve Bourque has the mount for trainer Danny Pish.
