Email

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Morning-line favorite Demagoguery should be prominent throughout from his rail post in Tuesday's $50,000 Wolverine Stakes at Great Lakes Downs. The Wolverine is for Michigan-bred at six furlongs .

Demagoguery is one of four Michigan Sire Stakes winners in the competitive field of nine. He has three wins so far this year, including a $62,000 optional claimer at Tampa Bay Downs. In his last start he ran a close fifth in the Waterford Park Handicap at Mountaineer Park.

Gerald Bennett trains Demagoguery, and Tommy Molina will be in the irons. Bennett has also entered Prince Nick.

Meadow Vespers, 5, won Sire Stakes here at 3 and 4, and is 1 for 1 at the meet after rallying six-wide to win an allowance race over Wolverine foes Dorthys Champ and Weatherstorm. Mary Doser will ride Meadow Vespers.

Weatherstorm is one of two Michigan champions in the race from the Bob Gorham barn. Weatherstorm, the reigning Michigan horse of the year, hung in his season opener after making a strong move late on the backstretch and finished third to Meadow Vespers.

Federico Mata rides Weatherstorm. Octavio Bernal will be on Rockem Sockem, a past Michigan horse of the year.
