Delta: Third straight for Father Confessor?

Father Confessor, who has won his last two starts by a combined total of 10 1/4 lengths, will attempt to extend his win streak Thursday night in the eighth race at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. The entry-level allowance will be run over five furlongs and has a purse of $16,500.

The richest race on the card, worth $28,500, is the seventh, a one-mile conditioned allowance for Louisiana-breds. Battle Prince will move back to the statebred ranks after finishing second last out in a non-restricted six-furlong race that went faster than par at Evangeline Downs.

* Michael Gill, the nation's leading owner, and Gammy Vazquez, his trainer at Lone Star, can pick up their second win of the meet in the featured eighth race Thursday night. They will start Saucy Cat in the entry-level allowance, which will be run at a 1 1/16 miles on turf. The purse is $26,000.

* Delta will race nights on a Thursday-through-Saturday basis until November, when Wednesday nights will be added. There is no admission charge to the track, and apron and grandstand seats are free. The meet will run through April 2, 2005.

Louisiana yearling brings $50,000

A yearling filly by Autocracy topped a one-day auction at Louisiana Downs on Monday, bringing $50,000 from Valene Farms. She was consigned by Clear Creek Stud, agent.

The auction featured yearlings and a mixed session. It was conducted by the Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana.

The sales-topping filly is out of the stakes-winning mare Shesa Due, and is a full sister to the stakes-placed Autobesarah, an earner of $268,978.
