Delta Downs track report

Eleven weeks into the current meet at Delta Downs, veteran Steve Bourque continues to sit atop the rider standings with 61 wins. Bourque is currently serving a seven-day suspension for careless riding.

During Bourque's downtime, Guy Smith narrowed the gap in the standings with a couple of two-win evenings last week and now trails Bourque by 10 victories. Journeyman C. J. Woodley and Jeri Nichols are tied for third with 40 wins each.

In the trainer ranks, Doris Hebert continues to dominate with 22 winners from just 66 starters for an exceptional 33 percent success rate. Keith Bourgeois, who also has a large string across the state at Fair Grounds, is next with 19 winners, followed closely by Don Cormier Jr. with 18.

Charles Begnaud and newcomer Bret Thomas, fourth and fifth in the standings with 16 and 15 wins, also have high win percentages. Both have saddled fewer than 60 starters.
