Populist Politics recaptured his best form Saturday night at Delta Downs, when he darted to a 2 1/2-length win over Idefromthebayou in the $70,000 B-Connected. The win came one start after Populist Politics ran an uncharacteristic 10th as the favorite in the $150,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic at Fair Grounds.

The B-Connected was restricted to Louisiana-breds who had not won a stakes in 2012.

Populist Politics ($7.20) settled in fifth in the early stages of the race, as Pirate Island and favorite Watch My Smoke were prominent through fractions of 23.05 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.11 for the half-mile,  and 1:12.11 for six furlongs. Populist Politics took command in the stretch and covered the mile on a fast track in 1:38.55.

Gerard Melancon rode Populist Politics for the partnership of Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence. The horse is trained by Tom Amoss. Populist Politics earned $42,000 for the fourth stakes win of his career. His record now stands at 6 wins from 21 starts for earnings of $432,416.
