Delta Downs: Pace should be rapid

If he could read, Believe Im Special would love the setup he will be getting Saturday night in the $40,000 Owner's Appreciation Sprint at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

There is no shortage of speed in the five-furlong race, and a hot pace would play right into Believe Im Special. He will face six others in the Owner's Appreciation, including the quick Test of Time, who drew the rail and will add blinkers, and front-runner Honey Hit.

The race is restricted to 4-year-olds and upward who have started in an overnight race during the current meet at Delta.

Believe Im Special last raced Feb. 5, when he closed from fifth to second in the $100,000 Louisiana Premier Night Sprint at Delta. He has won 9 of 18 starts at the track and is a specialist at the five-furlong trip. Trainer Thomas Sam has given the mount to Ricky Faul.

Test of Time also last raced Feb. 5, when he set the early pace in a 5 1/2-furlong race and finished second by a head. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 91, the highest last-out figure in the field.

Honey Hit set the pace in the Premiere Night Sprint, racing through fractions of 22.20 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.80 for the half-mile before finishing fourth behind winner Lac Laronge.

The field also includes Lunar Bounty, who cuts back to one turn in search of his third straight win.
