Delta Downs: McNeely sweeps two

Trainer Beverly McNeely swept the Firecracker Stakes series for Quarter Horses at Delta Downs last Sunday night, when she won the Grade 2, $215,250 Firecracker Futurity with Wings of La Jolla, and the Grade 2, $100,500 Firecracker Derby with Jack Zee Quick.

Wings of La Jolla paid $34.80, and Jack Zee Quick paid $5.80.

Jack Zee Quick set a track record for 400 yards in the derby, when he covered the distance in 19.64 seconds under Eddie Cox. Wings of La Jolla remained perfect in three starts with his win in the Futurity. He was ridden by Steve Fuller.

* Delta was the final leg of a national pick three for Quarter Horses last Sunday night. No one hit the bet, and a two-of-three consolation paid $187 on a $2 bet. Dash Like Thunder ($28.80) won the first leg of the pick three, which was held at Sam Houston Race Park; Talk on Rona ($31.80) captured the second leg, which was run at the Red Mile in Lexington, Ky.; and Dashin Now Jr. ($46.80) won the final leg, at Delta. Handle on the wager was $3,722.
