Delta Downs: Little Polka Dot ends year with a stakes win

Little Polka Dot tracked the pace and went on to a one length win over A Runnin Pop in Friday night’s $70,000 Lookout at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. It was another length and a quarter back in third to Esther Carl.

The Lookout was restricted to Louisiana-bred fillies and mares who had not won a stakes in 2012 and Little Polka Dot fit the conditions better than any of her rivals after placing in three stakes earlier in the year. Friday night, she raced in second for much of the Lookout, as Mensascott set a pressured pace of 23.18 seconds for the opening quarter and 48.12 for the half-mile. Little Polka Dot ($5.80) overtook that one and went on to cover the mile on a track rated muddy in 1:41.14.

Diego Saenz rode the winner for Coteau Grove Farms and trainer Patrick Devereux Jr.

Little Polka Dot earned $42,000 for the win, her ninth from 29 starts. She now has earnings of $433,771. She is a 6-year-old mare by Orientate.
