Delta Downs: La-breds in rematch

Zarb's Luck will meet many of the same horses he defeated last out in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Sprint in the $50,000 Cypress for statebreds Saturday night at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

The 6 1/2-furlong race, which will be run around two turns, drew a field of nine.

Zarb's Luck is after his third straight statebred stakes win. One start before his win in the Champions Day Sprint, in which he defeated four of the rivals he faces in the Cypress, he won the $50,000 Louisiana Premier Day Sprint at five furlongs at Delta.

To keep his streak alive, Zarb's Luck will have to secure good placement going into the first turn of the Cypress from post 8. His speed will help him with that task. Last out he set fractions of 21.20 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.60 for the half-mile in the six-furlong Champions Day Sprint, before going on to a three-length win over runner-up Noinbetweeners.

Guy Smith has the mount on Zarb's Luck for trainer Edward Johnston.

Others of note in the race include Noinbetweeners, to be ridden by Lonnie Meche; Prince Slew, who gets back to sprinting after running second to Walk in the Snow last out in the $150,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic; and multiple stakes winner Bet Me Best.
