VINTON, La. - Delta Downs has been the site of some of Decisive Moment’s biggest career wins and the trend continued Saturday when he fought off Hoorayforhollywood and Matto Mondo for a neck win in the $125,000 Delta Mile.

The race was one of eight stakes on a card anchored by the Grade 3, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot. Purses for the races totaled $2.1 million, making the program the richest of the year at Delta.

Decisive Moment ($9.80) broke well and set fractions of 23.28 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.09 for the half-mile and 1:12.45 for six furlongs, pushed along by Hoorayforhollywood and Matto Mondo. He covered the mile on a fast track in 1:38.49, edging Hoorayforhollywood. It was another half-length back in third to Matto Mondo.

“He’s a really nice little horse,” said Kerwin Clark, who was aboard Decisive Moment for trainer Juan Arias. “He was just ready today. Even going to the gates, he was just prancing and ready to go.”

Clark has been a regular aboard Decisive Moment, who was second in last year’s Jackpot and won last January’s $250,000 Jean Lafitte, when it was held for 3-year-olds. Clark also rode the horse in the Kentucky Derby in May. Decisive Moment pushed the pace in the Derby and finished 14th.

Decisive Moment earned $75,000 for his score in the Delta Mile, which was his fourth career win from 15 starts. He has now earned $685,630. Decisive Moment, a son of With Distinction, races for Ruben Sierra.

* Cajun Charlie ($12.20) made a successful transition to two turns in the $150,000 Legacy, when he led throughout for a 5 3/4-length win. Tracy Hebert was aboard for Heartlines Horse Ranch and trainer Brian House.

* Bella Medaglia ($7.20) became a stakes winner in the $125,000 Treasure Chest, when she fought back against Remit and went on to score by a length and three-quarters. Remit held second, finishing 5 3/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher and 4-5 favorite Spirit Seeker. John Jacinto rode the winner for Coteau Grove Farms and trainer Bret Calhoun.

*Trainer Patrick Devereux Jr.’s dream meet at Delta continued when Little Ms Protocol rallied for a 1 1/4-length win in the $150,000 Louisiana Jewel. Devereux has been winning with about 45 percent of his starters this season at Delta. Diego Saenz rode Little Ms Protocol ($3.80) for Coteau Grove Farms, which earlier on the card won the $125,000 Treasure Chest with Bella Medaglia.

*Nacho Business ($3.40) rolled to a 7 3/4-length win in the $60,000 Sam’s Town, a seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds who had not won a stakes. Elvis Trujillo was aboard for George and Lori Hall and trainer Kelly Breen.

*Mollys Missb’havin ($20.80) held off Tapatia by about a neck to win the $60,000 Orleans. The seven-furlong race was for 3-year-olds fillies who had never won a stakes. Charles McMahon was aboard for owner-trainer Jackie Thacker.
