Deliverer drops in class at Lone Start

Deliverer will be making a notable class move at Lone Star Park when he drops into a $7,500 starter allowance from the restricted stakes ranks. He is one of eight older horses in the six-furlong starter, with his chief rivals being Runnin' the River, who is a threat to wire the field, and Smoken Smoke and Lunarpeal.

Deliverer put four consecutive wins together this past spring, in a streak that began for a $6,250 claiming price at Sunland Park in March. He then stepped up and won for a $12,500 tag at Sunland in April before taking a pair of $15,000 claiming races at Lone Star in May.

In his most recent out, Deliverer tested stakes company and despite not getting the break from his rail post gave a strong account of himself. He rallied from last to finish second in the $50,000 Carter McGregor for Texas-breds June 13, beaten three lengths by multiple stakes winner Gold Coyote.

Cliff Berry has the mount on Deliverer for trainer Chris Hartman. The horse could get a stalking trip behind Runnin' the River, who was a wire-to-wire $7,500 starter allowance winner in his last start June 20. Others who could add to the pace include the rail-drawn Smoken Smoke and the front-running Brick Fight.

Runnin' the River has won three of his last four starts. Martin Escobar has the mount for trainer Justin Evans.
