Vegas No Show outfought Keep the Canoli in a stretch duel to win the $75,250 Dover Stakes for 2-year-olds by a nose at Delaware Park.
Inheriting the favorite’s role following the scratch of morning-line choice Micromanage, who ran instead in the Grade 1, $400,000 Champagne at Belmont Park, Vegas No Show ($5) tracked in second through fractions of 46.15 and 1:11.51. Keep the Canoli, under Jose Ferrer, stuck a head in front at the eighth pole, but Vegas No Show, ridden by for the first time by Ricardo Feliciano, battled back and barely reached the wire first. The winning time for a mile and 70 yards was 1:43.71.
It was the second win in four starts for Vegas No Show, a son of Hard Spun trained by Kelly Breen and owned by George and Lori Hall. He had won his two-turn debut against maidens at Delaware in his second lifetime start, then finished sixth cutting back to one turn in the Grade 2 Hopeful at Saratoga.
Keep the Canoli, the only two-time winner in the field of seven coming into the Dover, finished second by 2 3/4 lengths in front of Outhaul.

Runner-up in the Santa Anita Oaks, IOTAPA drops in class and shortens to a sprint with sharp recent works on the BHP surface. Oaks winner Beholder returned to finish second in the Kentucky Oaks; Oaks third Fiftyshadesofhay was one of the favorites Friday in the Black Eyed Susan at Pimlico. The point is, IOTAPA faced a good bunch last out. She specifically targeted this race, gets pace to run at, loves the track, and can mow them down as the favorite. She must catch two good front-runners.
