Delaware: Unbeaten filly moves up

Smooth Maneuvers, unbeaten in three starts as a sprinter, moves up in class and tries two turns for the first time in Saturday's $55,000 Cordially Stakes at Delaware Park.

Smooth Manuevers was claimed for $25,000 out of her career debut in early August. Since then, she has easily won a pair of allowance races.

A 3-year-old filly, Smooth Manuevers will stretch her speed from six furlongs to a mile without her usual jockey, Ramon Dominguez. Her Tomlinson distance rating of 356 indicates Smooth Maneuvers, a daughter of Grindstone, has the pedigree to handle a mile.

Two older opponents with proven ability against stakes-caliber competition will also challenge.

Shiny Sheet, a 5-year-old mare, finished fifth against males in her most recent start, the Maryland Million Classic at Laurel Park, earning one of her best Beyer Speed Figures ever, a 97. Two starts ago, Shiny Sheet won going a mile at Delaware.

Drexel Monorail usually sprints but stretched out to win a minor stakes at 1 1/16 miles at The Meadowlands earlier this month.

* Saturday's six-race card will begin at 10:45 a.m. Starting Sunday, post time for the first race will be at 12:20 p.m. until the meet ends Nov. 9.
