Delaware: On Thin Ice shows class

On Thin Ice and jockey Jeremy Rose powered past the leader Tartlet in midstretch to win the $54,988 Quick Card at Delaware Park by 1 3/4 lengths. Bailero caught Tartlet for second, with Tartlet hanging on for third in the field of six 3-year-olds and up. Six of the entrants were scratched.

On Thin Ice ($7) sat near the back of the pack as City Weekend and Tartlet dueled for the lead through fractions of 23.74 seconds and 46.24 in the one-mile race. Tartlet moved clear in the stretch, but On Thin Ice ran him down in 1:36.40 over a fast track. Bailero, the 3-2 favorite under Ramon Dominguez, broke awkwardly and stalked the two leaders early.

Owned by D.J. Stable and trained by Joe Orseno, On Thin Ice had not raced since finishing fourth in the Challenger Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on March 11. On Thin Ice, a 5-year-old Tactical Cat gelding, began the year with a victory in the Grade 3 Hal's Hope at Gulfstream.
