Delaware: Polish Pride weaves to win

With a quarter-mile left in the one-mile Quick Card at Delaware Park, the question wasn't whether Polish Pride could get up, but whether he could get through.

Polish Pride and jockey Mario Pino found themselves behind fanned-out leaders On Thin Ice, Lusty Latin, and The Lady's Groom turning for home, when Pino decided to take evasive action. He took Polish Pride between horses, then angled him to the rail in midstretch, and they wore down On Thin Ice for a neck victory in the $53,300 stakes for 3-year-olds and up. On Thin Ice took second, 2 1/2 lengths ahead of The Lady's Groom, who was the even-money favorite in a field of five. Lusty Latin, who was hustled to the lead from his outside post, finished fourth.

Owned by Mrs. Frank P. Wright and trained by Tim Tullock, Polish Pride covered the mile in 1:37.73 and paid $6.40.
