Trainer Michael Petro had Not Abroad fit and ready to run off the layoff, and his brother Nick put up a perfectly judged ride to register a three-quarter-length victory over Win Willy in Saturday’s $50,000 Joseph French Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park. Not Abroad, idle since finishing fifth as the 7-5 favorite in Parx’s Auld Lang Syne Stakes on Dec. 31, raced well placed before circling the leaders to gain command entering the stretch of the 1 1/16-mile Joseph French. A son of Not For Love owned by Tim Cunningham, Not Abroad drew well clear through midstretch before withstanding a final surge from Win Willy. Malibu Glow prompted the pace and finished another length farther back in third. Tech Fall, the 3-5 favorite in a scratch-reduced field of six, saved ground while within easy striking distance to the quarter pole but had little left thereafter, checking home a tiring fourth. Edgewater and Indian Jones completed the order of finish. Not Abroad, third in the 2011 Joseph French, covered the distance in 1:43.78 over a fast track and paid $19.20.
