Delaware Park: Win Willy goes for $1M mark in Joe French Memorial

Horse-for-the-course Win Willy will try to surpass $1 million in earnings when he faces nine other older horses going 1 1/16 miles on dirt in the $50,000 Joe French Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park.

The 7-year-old Win Willy, with 10 career victories and $985,437 in earnings, has 4 wins and 2 seconds in 7 lifetime starts at Delaware.

Last season, Win Willy won two stakes at Delaware and was a close second in the French. Although 0 for 4 this year, he ran well enough to pair up 94 Beyer Speed Figures in back-to-back stakes at Oaklawn Park in January and February.

Other logical contenders in a well-matched field include Private Tale, Rush Now, and Koh I Noor.

Private Tale, winner of the Native Dancer at Laurel in January, returns to two turns following a nose defeat going seven furlongs at Belmont Park.

Rush Now, who ended his 2012 campaign with three straight wins, including an overnight stakes at Parx, makes his first start since October.

Koh I Noor was given a 2 1/2-month break after his four-race winning streak was snapped when he finished fourth as the 4-5 favorite in the Harrison Johnson at Laurel. He won those four races by a combined margin of 28 lengths.
