Joe Rocco Jr., winning last month's John Rooney Memorial aboard She Be Classy, won with his first six mounts at Delaware Park on Wednesday.

Joe Rocco Jr., the leading jockey at Delaware Park, tied a track single-day record by riding six winners on Wednesday’s card.

Rocco, 29, won with his first five mounts on the day, starting in the third with Pit Viper ($3.80).  He followed with victories in the fourth with Bridgemix ($6.20), the fifth with Cash McCool ($3.80), the sixth with Settling for Gold ($5.80), and the seventh with Like Candy ($8.40).

Rocco did not have a mount in the eighth race, but in the ninth he scored aboard the Michael Matz-trained Christmas Cove ($23.80) to collect his sixth winner.

Rocco’s bid to break the record fell short, when King Bo Bo, his seventh mount of the day, finished seventh in the 10th and final race.

Five other jockeys have won six races in a single day at Delaware Park. They are Michael McCarthy, who achieved the feat twice in 1997 and 1998; Jimmy Edwards in 1984, Greg McCarron in 1968, George Cusimano in 1968, and Eldon Nelson in 1958
