Delaware Park: Class drop for Colonial Flag in Rosenna Stakes

Email

Colonial Flag, a Grade 3 stakes winner in Canada last season, and Warm Glow, a lightly raced 5-year-old mare who has put together a three-race winning streak, head the cast for the $50,000 Rosenna, an overnight stakes for fillies and mares scheduled for 1 1/8 miles on Delaware Park’s turf course.

Colonial Flag gets class relief following seven consecutive appearances in graded races. Based at Fair Hill with trainer Michael Matz, Colonial Flag won the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine last August and was second in the Grade 3 Regret at Churchill Downs. In her best race in two starts this season, Colonial Flag finished third of six in the Grade 3 Mint Julep at Churchill.

Warm Glow, trained by Hall of Famer Jonathan Sheppard, needed a drop to Pennsylvania-bred company to clear her maiden condition in her third lifetime start last October. She followed up by beating 11 first-level allowance rivals at Keeneland. In her lone start this year, Warm Glow romped by six lengths to clear her second allowance condition at Parx Racing.

The field also includes Charged Cotton, winner of the restricted All Brandy at Laurel Park last September; In the Rough, winner of a similar overnight stakes at Delaware last year; and Idle Talk, a nine-time winner on turf who outran her 26-1 odds to get second in the Grade 3 All Along at Colonial Downs in June.
