Delaware Park: Apprentice given two-month suspension for careless riding

STANTON, Delaware – Jockey Victor Rodriguez, who has 16 winners at the current Delaware Park meeting to rank second among local apprentice jockeys, was suspended by the stewards for the remainder of the meeting, which ends on Nov. 3. Rodriguez was supended for incidents that occured in the second and fourth races last Saturday.

The 31-year-old apprentice was suspended for “extremely careless riding” for his actions in the second race when he drifted out into another rival, causing his horse to clip heels and fall. Rodriguez was also cited for pushing another rider with his arm during the running of the fourth race.

The suspension was Rodriguez’s second of the meeting for careless riding. He also has had been fined during the meeting for weight infractions.
