Delaware: Hennie's Song 5 for 5

Email

Hennie's Song remained undefeated and earned a berth in the Delaware Oaks, Delaware Park's premier race for 3-year-old fillies by leading wire to wire in the $175,000 Susan's Girl Breeders' Cup Stakes.

Ridden by Anthony Black for trainer Steve Klesaris, Hennie's Song ($4.60) extended her winning streak to five races by defeating Ladyecho by 2 1/4 lengths. Her next target is the Grade 3, $500,000 Delaware Oaks July 19.

Black said Hennie's Song had some gas left in the tank after completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.52.

"To watch her, you would not think she has a lot of energy left, but she does," Black said. "When we were leaving the final turn, I waved my stick at her and she jetted away from them. She has been far from extended."

Among the three scratches in the Susan's Girl was Awesome Humor, who would have been a heavy favorite.
