Delaware: Eve Giselle turns back Tar Heel Mom in Sweet and Sassy

When 2-5 favorite Tar Heel Mom stuck a head in front of the 4-1 Eve Giselle after a half-mile of the six-furlong Sweet and Sassy at Delaware Park on Saturday, it looked as if the bettors had gotten it right. But Eve Giselle, under Javier Santiago, came right back inside of Tar Heel Mom, put her away with a furlong to run, and drew off to win the $125,000 stakes for fillies and mares by 2 1/2 lengths.

Eve Giselle and Tar Heel Mom dueled on the front for nearly the entire race. Tar Heel Mom held on for second, two lengths in front of Wildcat Aly, who chased in third for most of the race. Kid Kate and Indian Legend completed the order of finish in the five-horse field.

A Five Star Day filly owned by Bean Counter Stables and trained by Tim Ritchey, Eve Giselle returned $10.20. She covered the six furlongs over the Delaware dirt main track in 1:09.51.
