Delaware County Fair: Thursday 9/19 Analysis

Derick Giwner

Race 7: $40,000 Guaranteed Pick Four

Race 12: $70,000 Guaranteed Pick Four

Race 13: $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Three

Spot Play: LONEWOLF CURRIER (13th)

(Afternoon card - Approx. Post 12:30 PM)

Race 1

(6) MCALVIN has found the winner’s circle more than the rest of the field combined. Gelding picks up David Miller and should bring a nice effort. (3) STORM THE BEACH has some early speed in his arsenal and Gingras is likely to be using it. (2) EXIT CAM was cruising when he broke last time; threat.

Race 2

(5) IGOTTAFEELINFRAN is the Ohio champion and won that final at 1-9. She should easily take care of business. (2) PINK CAMO took plenty of air in that same final while starting from post eight. The inside draw should help. (1) TWO FRISKIE has some speed and pylon position.

Race 3

(3) ROCKEN CAMNATION drops down and finds a very good spot. There seems to be enough speed in here to set this guy up from first- or second-over. (5) HUNCHIE is on a roll but facing older; dangerous. (1) STAND TALL looks like a player but hails from a lower percentage driver/trainer combo.

Race 4

(4) BLUTO gets a huge class break this week. I’d expect him to bring a big effort. (2) ROSSINI has early speed and is coming off a fast mile. (3) VIBE BLUE CHIP has been very consistent lately.

Race 5

(1) HES GOT IT added Lasix and really perked up, but that might have been more because he was facing easier foes. This group doesn’t appear to be that tough and Miller should be trying to send this 2-year-old gelding down the road. (6) TOTALLY KISSED sports some good lines but must overcome the outside post. (5) ON GOLDEN PONDER could be a player with a clean trip.

Race 6

(1) HIGH BRIDGE has been chasing (3) SPIDER BLUE CHIP more often than not this year, but if Gingras refuses to yield from the rail, I can see this colt pulling off the mild upset. The latter is clearly the one to beat. If he makes the top, the race is over. (5) BOFFIN returns from a brief break and would need a fast pace to have a shot from behind.

Race 7

(2) CRUZIN TO THE DANCE doesn’t look particularly sharp on paper, but this mare is best and should perk up against these. (4) REVIVAL ROCK finds a pretty good spot and does pick up Tim Tetrick. (9) KITTY KITTY BANG is stuck in the second tier but seems to have some GO to her.

Race 8

(3) PAPAKNOWSBEST has done his best work with Noble in the bike. I’d expect to see some early speed. (1) BIG HARRY DEAL is another who should be aggressive, especially from the cones. (2) TSM WARHOL T ships in from Batavia after a couple of bad trips. He is probably better than his recent lines appear.

Race 9

(4) BOURBON ST HANOVER is a hot horse with the fastest mark of 2013 from this field. The addition of Corey Callahan is a plus. (1) WINDY CITY RON looks good on paper, but has a young pilot at the helm. (5) LEGACYS BEST has finished in the money 14-of-20 times this year.

Race 10

At first look (2) MAVEN came up empty in her last race and was a play against today. After closer inspection, she wasn’t really bad, just not great. She outdraws the main players in here and should be aggressive in this spot. (6) BEATGOESON HANOVER has to deal with an outside post but is as sharp as any in this race. If Miller can get any kind of a trip, watch out! (4) DORSAY can step up with a huge effort at times and did so last week. That said, consistency has been an issue. (1) PERSONAL STYLE is a must on the bottom of your exotics.

Race 11

(3) PET ROCK draws inside main rival (5) A ROCKNROLL DANCE and should lead at every call. The world record of 1:49 on a half-mile track could be in jeopardy. The latter is as sharp as they come but stuck with the worst of the draw. (1) ROCKIN FINISH should flash some speed and get a piece.

Race 12

In a race with three horses starting from the second tier, I want a horse that will be near the lead and (3) THAT FRISKIE FEELIN fits the bill. I’m not sure what happened to him last time, but I’ll forgive and forget. (11) FEELIN LIKA WINNER was huge in the Ohio championship last time. Trip is the only question starting from the second tier. (1) OUTDOOR FEVER flashed big-time speed the last time he drew the rail on a half-mile track.

Race 13

(2) LONEWOLF CURRIER was raced very conservatively in the PASS final five days ago. He edged off the cones in the stretch and had pace while in traffic. This guy has quick acceleration and that will serve him well here. (5) VEGAS VACATION might have trouble working out a trip from this post, but he might be good enough to win this regardless of trip. (3) ROCKIN AMADEUS prepped for this with an easy win at Yonkers; usable.

Race 14

(3) EMERITUS MAXIMUS has been stuck with outside posts of late. Although his recent PP lines say otherwise, he is fast enough to pull off the upset. (6) WORD POWER almost beat Captaintreacherous last time. This guy is a serious threat. (4) LUCAN HANOVER was installed as the morning line favorite and while he has a chance, a short price doesn’t entice me in this field. (5) BEACH MEMORIES is fast off the gate.

Race 15

(3) SUNFIRE BLUE CHIP had trouble on the half earlier this year, but seems to be a straighter horse now. This is a spot to roll to the front and try to keep going. (5) ODDS ON EQUULEUS qualified well in his first track appearance for new conditioner Tony Alagna; using. (4) JOHNY ROCK can flat out fly off the wings of the gate and is sure to have a say in the outcome.

Race 16

(3) LUCYS PEARL is a nice looking young filly from trainer Ron Gurfein. I like her versatility. (6) UPFRONT BAD GIRL has clear talent but is stuck outside. (1) SISTER STROLL has been facing tough PASS foes.

Race 17

(2) CAROLS COMET is right there each week in the Opens at Scioto and I love her post and early speed potential. (5) BAKIN ON THE BEACH hasn’t really lived up to his potential this year. Maybe Sears can get more out of him. (1) LONESOME ATTACK figures to find some speed from the cones. (9) I FOUND MY BEACH is another solid player from Scioto; second tier.

Race 18

Little Brown Jug Second Heat (Horses, Drivers and Post Positions will be announced after race 15)

Race 19

(5) FIERCE DESIRE should be the first and possibly last to the top in this race; edge. (7) AND WELL SEE YA is plenty sharp. Can he work out a trip from this post? (2) NOBLE TRICK has been in some bad spots. Maybe Ron Pierce can wake him up. (3) SOAP SUDS comes down from Hazel. Seems like a long trip unless this guy is live.

Race 20

Little Brown Jug Race-Off (If Necessary)
