Delaware: Celtic Innis hangs on

Southern Missile figured to be hard to catch in the $100,000 Vincent A. Moscarelli Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park, but Celtic Innis caught him and still had enough to hold off the late charge of City Weekend to win by a neck.

Ridden by Ramon Dominguez in the six-furlong stakes, Celtic Innis tracked Southern Missile in third position, as Southern Missile set fractions of 22.57 seconds and 45.07 for the half-mile. After easing out for the drive, Celtic Innis drove past Southern Missile, who faded to third, 2 3/4 lengths behind City Weekend and Jeremy Rose. Favored Joey Carson ended up fifth.

Trained by Timothy Keefe for owner E. Allen Murray Jr., Celtic Innis was making his first start since winning the six-furlong Chesapeake at Colonial Downs six weeks ago. He paid $6.60 to win as the second betting choice and was clocked in 1:09.89 on a wet-fast track.
