Delaware: Cayllano crushes four foes in White Clay Creek

Jockey Leandro Goncalves knew what he was doing making the trip from Kentucky to ride just one horse on the July 4 holiday card at Delaware Park.

Cayllano made Goncalves’s trip worthwhile when she breezed to her second straight impressive victory in the $50,000 White Clay Creek Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

Making her first start since scoring by nine lengths in her career debut under Goncalves at Indiana Downs on June 11, Cayllano ($5.40), the 8-5 second choice in a field reduced to five by five scratches, cruised to an 8 1/2-length victory. She ran the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:04.55.

Walkin in a Shadow finished second as the 5-2 third choice, three lengths in front of Brenda’s Way.  Missy Rules, the 7-5 favorite on the basis of her 5 ½-length win in her career debut locally on May 30, dueled up front early and faded to finish last.

A daughter of Bluegrass Cat trained by Tom Amoss for Gold Mack Farm, Cayllano is based at Churchill Downs.
