Delaware: Bowman's Band by neck

Email

There's something about Delaware Park that brings out the best in Bowman's Band.

Racing at Delaware for the first time since he won the R.R.M. Carpenter Jr. Memorial Handicap last July, Bowman's Band ($8.60) outfought 7-5 favorite Private Lap by a neck to win the $100,000 Brandywine Handicap.

Ridden by Ramon Dominguez for trainer Michael Matz, the 5-year-old Bowman's Band snapped a six-race losing streak by covering 1 1/16 miles in 1:36.64 over a sloppy track. Justification was third, 20 lengths behind the top pair.

Windsor Castle, coming off a win in the Grade 3 Schaeffer Handicap at Pimlico, finished fourth in the field of five at 5-2.
