DEL MAR, Calif. - Chantal Sutherland will ride Game On Dude in the Pacific Classic, having successfully asked for a deferment of a four-day suspension she received from stewards at Ascot Racecourse in England last weekend for excessive use of the whip.
The suspension was scheduled for four consecutive days from Aug. 25-28, but Sutherland applied to British racing authorities to defer one day of the suspension to ride on Aug. 26, according to Del Mar steward Tom Ward.
Ward said that documents reflecting the deferment were sent to Del Mar by British officials and would be honored. As a result, Sutherland's revised suspension days are Aug. 25, and Aug. 27-29.
Sutherland has been the regular rider of Game On Dude, winner most recently of the Hollywood Gold Cup, since the gelding's win in the 2011 Santa Anita Handicap.

I think this entire "suspension" is nonsense! I don't think anyone has EVER seen her misuse the whip while riding here (number one) and if the Brits think she did it over THERE so what! Nothing that happens abroad should affect her riding on U.S. soil anyway.
She is known for (and it is obvious to anyone who watches her ride) loving the horses she rides whether they be a $20K claimer or a Grade 1 stakes winner and would never "punish" a horse in order to win a race or push a horse beyond his performance level.
The Brits are just weird and this suspension shouldn't be honored at all PERIOD.
