DEL MAR, Calif. – All Del Mar stakes winners seem to win by 8 1/2 lengths these days.

After Game On Dude won Sunday’s $1 million Pacific Classic by that wide of a margin, the California-bred 2-year-old filly Sunday Rules conquered five rivals by 8 1/2 lengths in Wednesday’s $150,000 Generous Portion Stakes.

Sunday Rules ($2.60) remained unbeaten after two starts with her easy win.

Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Sunday Rules took the lead in the opening furlong and led by three lengths on the turn. She pulled away through the stretch, finishing well clear of Whatsallthedrama, a 6-1 shot. Moving Desert was third, followed by Rovenna, Time for Angie, and Feature Attraction.

Sunday Rules was timed in 1:09.56 for six furlongs. She set a quick early pace of 21.83 and 44.32 seconds for the first half-mile.
Owned by her breeder, Nick Alexander, Sunday Rules is by Tribal Rule and is trained by Mike Mitchell. Sunday Rules won her debut in a maiden race over 5 1/2 furlongs here Aug. 3, drawing off to win that race by 4 1/2 lengths. Sunday Rules was the sixth winner of the meeting for Alexander.

“Her maiden race blew me away,” Mitchell said. “I thought if she ran that, she’d blow them away again. She did that.

“The way she ran today impressed me.”

Sunday Rules has earned $130,500 from her two wins.
