Del Mar: Reneesgotzip sets track record in winning Rancho Bernardo
DEL MAR, Calif. – Reneesgotzip made a track record look easy with a cozy win in Sunday’s $150,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap for fillies and mares at Del Mar.
Ridden by a confident Garrett Gomez, Reneesgotzip led throughout the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo, running 6 1/2 furlongs in a track-record time of 1:14.48. The previous mark of 1:14.93 was set by Carlsbad in the 2009 Rancho Bernardo.
Reneesgotzip ($2.60) set a quick pace of 22.43 and 44.46 seconds through the first half-mile of the Rancho Bernardo, leading by 2 1/2 lengths over Sweet Marini. She extended the margin to four lengths in the stretch, clearing six furlongs in 1:08.18, and won by 4 1/4 lengths over Winding Way.
“She loves this racetrack,” trainer Peter Miller said. “I wish the Breeders’ Cup was here. She’s an awesome filly, and she’s fast.”
Winding Way, the winner of the 2012 Rancho Bernardo, finished 3 3/4 lengths in front Sweet Marini, who was followed by Sugarinthemorning and Curvy Cat.
Reneesgotzip won her second race of the meeting in the Rancho Bernardo, having won an allowance race over six furlongs July 18.
Reneesgotzip, a 4-year-old filly by City Zip, won her fourth stakes Sunday. She won the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes in 2012 and was third against males in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint last November. Owned by Debbie Lanni, Reneesgotzip has won 7 of 12 starts and $655,460.
Miller said Reneesgotzip will not start again until the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita on Nov. 1-2, when the race options will include the Filly and Mare Sprint and two races against males, the Sprint and the Turf Sprint.
I love this filly, but they probably need to stick to the Turf Sprint with her, with the F/M Sprint second choice. I believe they ran her in the Ancient Title at 6f last year, and she was toasted. The Turf Sprint will be kinder on her speed. She can clearly get the 7f of the F/M Sprint, and she was thisclose to winning the LaBrea.
Where are the comments from the Baffert's horse lovers ? Ren pissed on em!
Where are the comments from the people who said Baffert's horse would dominate Ren? LOL, Ren pissed on em!
The web site below is a FRAUD, be carefull they load a VIRUS that will grab your ExpressBet account #..................on to racing ! VERY VERY impressive !....................I think, best to watch the entrys, if the sprint comes up light, MAYBE try it, but why get greedy, just blow the doors off the girls going short .
Reneesgotzip lights out as usual. Love the filly, but value is gone. Nakatani used to ride her back in the day. He must have been watching her speeding around the track, while the distance between the field and his ... stalker rapidly grew to insurmountable. Makes you wish they threw in a IQ test with the drug testing.
I think Maldonado would've ridden this great filly 3/5 faster today. Too bad he lost the mount.
dont get crazy here and stay with the girls in the breeders cup she can dominate them, but the boys will blow her doors off! there is a time and a place to take on the males but a breeders cup race is not the time or place. just look at the overall stats doesnt happen very often and it usually ruins the filly/mare, and she is never the same i can give dozens of examples if needed!
One awsome filly. At this point she very well be the best sprinter in the country, of either sex. Would love to see her go against the boys in the sprint.
