Del Mar: Pick-six carryover of $238,499 for Wednesday

DEL MAR, Calif. – There is a pick-six carryover of $238,499 for Wednesday’s eight-race program at Del Mar, a carryover created when the stewards disqualified the original winner of Sunday’s ninth race.

Cosmic Heat (6-1) was the first to reach the wire in Sunday’s ninth race but was disqualified and placed third behind Centenario de Oro ($58.40) and Fighting On after the stewards ruled that Fighting On lacked sufficient running room in the final sixteenth.

If Cosmic Heat had won, there would not have been a carryover.

Aside from the pick-six carryover, there is a carryover of $46,740 in the 50-cent super high five, which is conducted on the day’s final race.

Wednesday’s program begins at 2 p.m. Pacific. The pick six covers the third through eighth races, with the first pick-six race starting at approximately 3 p.m.

The pick-six races drew large fields and are comprised of a maiden race over a mile on turf, a six-furlong sprint for $8,000 claimers, a maiden claimer for 2-year-old fillies over 5 1/2 furlongs, an optional claimer over a mile, the $90,000 Wickerr Stakes over a mile on turf, and a maiden claimer over 1 1/16 miles.

The Wickerr Stakes drew an oversubscribed field of 11 but will have a safety limit of 10 starters. The strong field includes the stakes winners Indy Point, My Best Brother, Chips All In, Wilkinson, and Second City.

I wonder if the stewards put on masks, and drew pistols when they made the DQ decision on Sunday! How pathetic. It's another example of why horse racing is a dying game. Any first time bettors would have been turned off to the game by the decision.

The right decision was made in this race. The 6 came over and cut off the path of the 4 and cost him a better placing. People can't be objective if they bet money on the race but it was the right call. People can talk about legal action and all that stuff but it would be a waste of money. Yes, the stewards should of put of the Inquiry sign on there own and should not of had to wait for the jockey's claim of foul.

You need either a white cane, a lobotomy or both; Maldonado tried to place his horse where there was NO room--then he whined like a punk when--guess what--he couldn't force his way through. Then the stewards disqualified Delgadillo--who'd clearly done nothing wrong--for the EXPRESS PURPOSE of concocting a double carryover in the Pick-6. Just look at the CHART: The ONLY mention of even the slightest hint at an infraction is that the #6 "drifted"--NO mention of a horse being cut off. Yeah, Maldonado's horse steadied--due to Maldonado's lousy riding! How often are jockeys' claims of objections granted? ALMOST NEVER! WHY HERE? We KNOW WHY! To create a massive weekday P-6 pool for the... "WHALES!"

The Steward are a bunch of COWARDS, they NEVER show their face to the public or come on the TV monitors and explain their decision. They are nothing more than a group of vasilating COWARDS that are like the Wizard of Oz who hides behind a curtain. Del Mar has always been nothing more than a GOOD 'OL BOYS CLUB for thiefs. This was as blatant in your face, we don't care what you think, take down EVER !!! The Stewards should take the mirrors down in their house so they don't have to look at their pathetic faces. After all, the betting public never gets to see their faces !!!

This call is just another in the long line of bad calls by the SoCal stewards in the past 2 weeks. The DQ of Maldonado @ Hol, where they had no conclusive video of what happened. The non DQ in the CTBA at Del Mar, and the DQ in the last race yesterday. I really don't know what these folks are doing in the Stewards Booth? I really feel for the person who lost $280,000 in the Pick 6, what a shame! These stewards need to be fired immediately! I sent emails to all CHRB board members last night, voicing my complaints.

Besides the Pick Six carryover, Del Mar was able to save the $50K additional bonus that should have been split to the winners (is it 2 winners who had #6 in their tickets??). They have an additional $50K bonus split to the Pick-6 winners every Sunday only.

I heard from TVG the 50k will carryover too....

Those who were deprived of winnings by dint of the DQ should consider getting together and filing a class action lawsuit against the CHRB, the DMTC, et al. While it's one thing to have an ordinary "bad beat"-- getting screwed this way is NOT part of what horse players bargain for when they spend time and effort handicapping.

Fraud at the highest level, the 6 maintained a straight line down the stretch, maybe came in a foot. Unreal, investigation should take place.

One of the worst call ever. The #6 was clear by far. The bettor that had the pick 6 must be sickened.....

Stewards need to be more CONSISTENT with their CALLS. For example on friday, they should have DQ the 4 as well. However, the 4 was a long shot and it benefit the racetrack not to DQ. Also it benefit the racetrack to DQ the 6. It seems if it benefits the track there will be a DQ. That is not right!!!!!!!!!
