Del Mar: Garcia begins three-day suspension Friday

Jockey Martin Garcia on Friday was scheduled to begin a three-day suspension for careless riding, a penalty assessed by Del Mar’s stewards following last Friday’s fourth race, which Garcia won aboard Candy Waltz.

The stewards conducted an inquiry into the race and let the result stand, ruling that the incident in which Candy Waltz bumped other rivals did not impact the order of finish. But they did cite Garcia for carelessness, hence the suspension.

Even with the suspension, Garcia can still ride in stakes races this weekend, including aboard Switch in the Grade 1, $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes on Saturday.

The CA Stewards made the Right Call. Martin is Great. But, in this particular race he was trying to get out of a hole & sideswept the horses to his right of him.

lots of "bumping" at the three/eighths pole. MG "muchias gracias" rode a good race. he will be around for awhile. .Mitchell and company seem to have given up on OBVIOUSLY. A shame. This is a very nice horse, who simply needs a rider who fits him, not some ring bit from australia
