Celtic Princess, winning the Royal Heroine, was withdrawn from Saturday's Eddie Read Stakes, where she would have challenged males, to await the John Mabee for fillies and mares.

Celtic Princess was scratched from Saturday’s Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes against males in favor of a start against her own sex in the $250,000 John Mabee Stakes over 1 1/8 miles o turf on Aug. 14, trainer A.C. Avila said.

The decision was made after Avila discussed goals over the next few months with owner Luiz Fernando Dannemann on Saturday. Avila said that Celtic Princess will run in the Mabee and then the Yellow Ribbon Stakes at the Santa Anita autumn meeting in early October.

A 7-year-old Brazilian-bred mare, Celtic Princess has won 6 of 15 starts and $330,624. She won the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Mile at Hollywood Park on July 4.
