The connections of the 3-year-old Burns, who has already run well twice at the meet, can provide another solid performance in the Del Mar Derby.

Burns, the winner of the Grade 2 La Jolla Handicap, is entered in Sunday’s $250,000 Del Mar Derby. If he starts, he will be the only horse to have run in the three turf stakes for 3-year-olds at Del Mar.

Burns was second to Mr. Commons in the Oceanside Stakes on the July 20 opening day program and finished a neck in front of Lil Bit O’Fun in the La Jolla on Aug. 13.

“I think we’ve got one more good race in him,” said Richard Baltas, the assistant to trainer Barry AbramsThirtyfirststreet and Midnight Interlude, third and fourth in the La Jolla, are in the field for the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby, which is run over 1 1/8 miles on turf.

The field also includes the highly regarded Banned, who was third in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park on Aug. 13; and Dreamy Kid, who won the Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park in July, but was seventh in the West Virginia Derby last month.
