DEL MAR, Calif. - Sunday, trainer Richard Mandella has a leading contender with Jimmy Creed in the $300,000 Bing Crosby Stakes over six furlongs.

Jimmy Creed won two stakes at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting, including the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes last December, but was last of eight after a poor start in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park on June 30.

The Grade 1 Bing Crosby drew a field of six, with one notable absence among the nominees. Fast Bullet, the sharp winner of the Grade 2 True North Stakes at Belmont Park on June in his 2013 debut, was not entered.

Trainer Bob Baffert said on Thursday that he was not satisfied with the way that Fast Bullet has trained on the Del Mar synthetic track.

“He doesn’t train on this surface as well,” he said.

The Bing Crosby field includes Goldencents, who won the Santa Anita Derby in April but was 17th in the Kentucky Derby and fifth in the Preakness Stakes, and Comma to the Top, who won three stakes earlier this year and was second in the Triple Bend.
