American Act, one of the best 3-year-old sprinters on the Southern California circuit, will miss the Del Mar meet, trainer Jack Carava said.
“He’s turned out,” Carava said. “He just started training poorly. He wasn’t training sharply. We decided to kick him out for a couple of months.
“There’s nothing major wrong with him. We did a nuclear scan, and nothing showed up. But he always trained with a lot of energy, and then he didn’t seem to want to do it. He’ll come back after Del Mar.”
American Act was second to Drill in the Laz Barrera at Betfair Hollywood Park in his most-recent start, on May 12. Prior to that, he won the Harry Henson at Hollywood Park despite bolting at the top of the stretch. Earlier this year, American Act was second in the San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita, splitting Drill and Creative Cause.

OUR HEAT has a win and a second in two turf tries here. She has been favored both time but is meeting tougher today. Like her style, sitting back a bit early and then unleashing a strong closing kick. She seems to like the turf and graduated in a straight maiden grass race. The breeding is heavily slanted to turf. BEEZAROO has hit the board in her past five starts at this level. Has outrun her breeding on turf and scored her lone career victory over the Lakeside Turf Course. Rider chose top pick over her, but she's picked up leading ridder for this.
