Del Mar: All-sources handle up 1.7 percent


Average all-sources handle, including nationwide simulcasting and account-wagering sources, showed an increase of 1.7 percent through Sunday, the 10th day of the 37-day meeting, according to a statement released by the track.

The daily average was $11,819,091 compared to $11,621,505 over the corresponding period in 2011. Average ontrack handle was up 8.7 percent, to a daily average of $2,450,871. Total handle from account wagering was $26.8 million, an increase of 9.4 percent over 2011.

Total attendance figures are down, but are not as gloomy as after the first week of the meeting. Through July 22, the first five days of the meeting, attendance was down 8.4 percent. Improved business during the second week reduced the deficit to 4.3 percent.

Through Sunday, field sizes have averaged 8.24 horses per races, compared to 8.31 in 2011.
