Deep Impact has Arc work

Deep Impact came through his Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe workout at Longchamp with flying colors on Wednesday, as he covered the final quarter-mile of the 1 1/2-mile move in an unofficial 21 seconds flat under regular rider Yutaka Take.

A 4-year-old Japanese-bred son of Sunday Silence, Deep Impact was working in lieu of a run in last Sunday's Arc prep for older horses, the Prix Foy, in which his main rivals for the Arc, Shirocco and Hurricane Run, finished first and second. Trained by Yasuo Ikee, Deep Impact will run in the Oct. 1 Arc off a 14-week layoff. He has not run since winning the 1 3/8-mile Takarazuka Kinen at Kyoto on June 25.

* Nannina will keep her Group 1 victory in the Coronation Stakes. She tested positive for a banned substance after her victory in the June 23 Royal Ascot mile for 3-year-old fillies, but a second sample tested in France came back negative Wednesday. Trained by John Gosden and owned by Cheveley Park Stud, Nannina will now collect the Coronation's $278,182 first prize.
