Declan's Moon victorious in Prevue

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Declan's Moon ran a perfect race in Saturday's $100,000 , remaining unbeaten in three starts and firmly in the picture for the Eclipse Award as the nation's outstanding 2-year-old male.

Scoring his second consecutive stakes win, Declan's Moon ($2.80) stalked pacesetter Bushwacker through a half-mile in 21.96 and 44.22 seconds, rallied to take the lead in early stretch and won by a measured two lengths. Jockey Victor Espinoza did not use his whip on Declan's Moon, who finished seven furlongs in 1:21.74.

Buckwacker, a 16-1 shot, finished second, a head in front of Seize the Day in the field of eight.

The Grade 3 Prevue marked Declan's Moon's first start since he scored an upset win in the Grade 2 Del Mar Futurity on Sept. 8. Owned by Mace and Samantha Siegel and trained by Ron Ellis, Declan's Moon has earned $239,400.

Declan's Moon will make his next start in the Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity on Dec. 18, a Grade 1 over 1 1-16 miles that is expected to attract Wilko, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Lone Star Park last month.
