Death at under-tack show

LEXINGTON, Ky. - An equine fatality disrupted Keeneland's second and final under-tack preview on Monday in advance of the April 15 2-year-olds in training sale at the track.

Hip No. 81 had just posted one of the day's faster times of 21.00 seconds for a quarter-mile when he broke down. The chestnut Hennessy-Scivolina colt, from the family of European Horse of the Year Peintre Celebre, was euthanized. Leprechaun Racing, agent, had consigned the colt. The colt's exercise rider was unharmed.

The workout session produced several blazing times, both on dirt and turf. The fastest time for a quarter-mile was for Hip No. 48's time of 20.60 seconds. Hip No. 48 is a Forestry colt out of stakes producer Northern Sanction (by Affirmed) and is a half-brother to graded winners Regal Sanction and Nonies Dancer Ali. Niall Brennan, agent, is the consignor.

At one furlong, Bill Harrigan, agent's Stravinsky-Audra (Alleged) filly posted the afternoon's fastest time of 10.00, working on the turf course. The filly was to sell as Hip No. 158.

The fastest breeze over three-eighths of a mile was 33.20 seconds, by Hip No. 43, a Boston Harbor colt out of stakes-placed Needham Star, by Mt. Livermore. The colt is the first foal for his dam and was to sell from the Gayle Woods agency.
