'Dazzle' is better suited for sprinting

Email

LINCOLN, Neb. - Watch Me Dazzle turns back to a more comfortable six furlongs as he heads a field of five entered for the $10,000 Journal-Star Stakes for 3-year-olds Sunday at the Lincoln State Fair.

Watch Me Dazzle was a badly faltering second, beaten 17 lengths by Tauke, in the one-mile Stevens Stakes at Fonner Park on May 12. After disputing the pace with the winner for six furlongs, he was ready to give up that day. He should find return to a sprint much more to his liking.

A son of Dazzling Falls trained by Jim Compton, Watch Me Dazzle has a pair of allowance wins to his credit this year, plus stakes placings in the Bachman and Fonner Park Special Stakes. Don Herber has the mount from post 4.

Harvey Bengal, trained by Steve Hall, opened his campaign with two wins at Fonner Park, with the Bachman Stakes in early March for his most recent win. Although winless since then, he should be primed for a top effort. Dan Beck rides from post 1.

o Monday's feature is the $12,500-added Big Red Mile Handicap for older Nebraska-breds. Herb Riecken's duo of Buzz Bar and High Dice are co-highweights at 123 pounds with just six horses nominated to the race. Both horses are multiple stakes winners and the entry will be heavily favored if enough competition can be found to fill the race.
