VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Daz Lin Dawn came from a stalking position to win the $50,000 Supernaturel Handicap at Hastings on Saturday.

She paid $2.80 as the prohibitive favorite in the 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.

It was her fourth straight stakes win this year, and although she didn’t dominate her rivals as she did in three previous sprints, she never looked like losing was on her mind after she took the lead coming out of the final turn. The winning margin over Yukon Belle was 1 3/4 lengths.

With leading rider Richard Hamel aboard, Daz Lin Dawn broke alertly and was sitting inside of Yukon Belle heading into the first turn. Hamel eased her back, and moved her to the outside of her stablemate Morning Blurs and Yukon Belle coming out of the turn. From there she stalked the two through a half-mile in 47.64 seconds. She started to move into serious contention at the six-furlong mark, made a strong three-wide move around the stretch turn, and took control at the top of the stretch.  Baby’s Got Track rallied to finish third.

Daz Lin Dawn carried high weight of 124 pounds, nine more than the runner-up.

“I didn’t want to be where I was, but sometimes it can’t be helped,” Hamel said. “I also didn’t want to get too far out of it, and as usual she responded when I asked her. She’s pretty special, and keeps getting better mentally and physically.”

Daz Lin Dawn is trained by Nancy Betts, who owns the daughter of Popular with JDP Holdings and Delton Stable.

Bred in British Columbia, Daz Lin Dawn has a 6-1-0 record from eight starts for earnings of $164,650.
