Day Trippi wins Bold Accent for new connections

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Day Trippi, a $12,500 claim earlier this month at Fair Grounds, regained half her sale price back in her first start for trainer Dan Coughlin as the 4-year-old filly scored an impressive 2 1/2-length win over eight other females in the $10,775 Bold Accent Stakes at Fonner Park on Saturday.

Day Trippi was claimed for owner Michael Hoesing on Feb. 8 off a second-place finish that day. She made her Nebraska debut an impressive one, putting away the speedy Lady Countdown in the turn and then holding a clear margin under mild urging. She covered the four furlongs in 46 seconds over a fast track and returned $5.20 as the favorite. The win boosted her career record to 5 wins from 10 starts.

Noble Bandit rallied to be a clear second, while Lady Countdown was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third.
