Day, McCarron to aid High Hope

Two Hall of Fame jockeys will attend the 40th anniversary High Hope Steeplechase meet at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington on May 21.

Chris McCarron will return to the saddle to ride in the Sportsman's Challenge, a two-mile flat race sponsored by Ashford and Coolmore studs. Pat Day will attend the one-day race meet in support of the Blue Grass Farms Chaplaincy, one of the designated charities to benefit from High Hope's proceeds.

McCarron will represent the North American Racing Academy, a school for jockeys that he has founded, in the Sportsman's Challenge. The race is open to riders who have not ridden as professionals in the previous five years, though an exception is made for celebrity riders like McCarron who compete to aid the High Hope charities. The horses in the race must be 4 or older; not have won $7,500 in total prize money this year; and have not placed in the top three in a stakes or listed race since May 21, 2004. All carry 165 pounds.
