Davis, Sayler have the numbers

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Trainers Peter Davis and Ardell Sayler saddle four of the five 3-year-olds in Saturday's fourth running of the $20,000 North Dakota Stallion Stakes at Assiniboia Downs. The 1 1/16-mile race is for horses eligible through the North Dakota Thoroughbred Association.

Davis sends out the entry of Northern Cheyenne and Tonshi.

In his last start here July 1, Northern Cheyenne rallied to take the North Dakota Derby. That win, which was Northern Cheyenne's first at a recognized racetrack, came in his fourth start in as many weeks. He previously had won one of three races at Chippewa Downs in North Dakota.

Tonshi showed considerable improvement in his last start - his first under Davis - over his first three races, but still looks to have his work cut out for him here.

High Storada, the third-place finisher in the North Dakota Derby, was unable to secure a clear lead that day. Saturday's pace scenario is much more favorable to High Storada, and the Gary Danelson-trained colt could find himself loose on the lead.

Sayler won the first two editions of the North Dakota Stallion Stakes with Manitoba Mark and Chiefs Ransom, and finished second with Twobillsbest last year. This year, Sayler's hopes rest with maidens Roadwin and Airingout.

Airingout made his first start for Sayler on July 20, finishing third against maiden claimers after setting a slow pace.

Roadwin finished fifth in the North Dakota Derby and raced on Lasix for the first time in his last start, a third-place finish against maiden claimers.
