Dave by a nose in Cole

EmailDave capped a marvelous weekend for trainer Barclay Tagg when his late rally landed him at the wire first by a nose over Al Basha in Sunday's $112,800 Ashley T. Cole Handicap for New York-breds at Belmont Park. It was a head back to Spurred.

It was the third stakes win in two days for Tagg, who on Saturday won the Grade 2 Futurity and Grade 3 Noble Damsel. Tagg won four races from six starters at Belmont over the weekend.

Dave, who hadn't won since taking the Kingston Handicap in May 2006, had only two horses beaten turning for home, but he unleashed a furious stretch kick under Alan Garcia that enabled him to catch Al Basha in the last jump. Dave ($8.80), who covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.90, is a 6-year-old son of Ends Well owned by Partingglass Stable and Three Colleens Stable. He is now 6 for 33 with career earnings of $444,292.

* Earlier on the card, longshot Miss Tizzy ($35) led from start to finish under Jose Lezcano to win the $76,500 Dream Supreme Stakes by 1o3/4 lengths over Quota. Miss Tizzy, a daughter of Cee's Tizzy, is trained by Leroy Jolley and owned by Bridle Path Stables.
